Light according to David Weeks

03/11/2025

Triode has been collaborating with New York designer David Weeks for many years. Founded in Brooklyn in 1996, the studio is renowned for its large-scale sculptural lighting, where minimalism and formal audacity combine to defy gravity. Each creation, the fruit of an experimental approach, explores scale, proportion, balance and movement. Over the years, Weeks has also extended his field of exploration to furniture - notably sofas and chairs - as well as a series of articulated wooden objects and toys, which he himself describes as a “creative mid-life crisis” and which were exhibited in our Parisian showroom at Christmas.

Widely regarded as the founding father of North American lighting design, David Weeks has been a pioneering figure in Brooklyn’s burgeoning independent design movement in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He played a key role in its rise, alongside Lindsey Adelman, who collaborated with him in the early days, and Jason Miller, founder of Roll & Hill.

His lighting fixtures have been seen in the apartment of the character Serena van der Woodsen in the series Gossip Girl, as well as in the film Interview (2007).

Committed to craftsmanship, David Weeks infuses his pieces with an artist’s sensibility and a technical precision. "To me it is jewellery for the home" he said.
