LGS from LA: Ceramics from another world, another time

08/01/2024

For Paris Design Week, Triode invites Californian designers LGS Studio to create a series of seven pieces. This new work, presented for the first time in September, includes lighting fixtures, sculptures and objects made from ceramics, combined with materials such as stoneware, glass, raw pigments and raffia.

The American collaborative design studio is part of an exploration of ancient and paleobotanical worlds. Desert landscapes, cacti, the mountains that dominate the arid plains and volcanic rocks played a major role in drawing and determining the lines and textures of the pieces. Surfaces have been meticulously sculpted, pushed, pulled and transformed to give life to what the designers like to call "new relics".

LGS Studio’s work is not of one person, one voice, but rather a rich duality. Thomas Renaud is a self-taught ceramist who draws inspiration from architecture, commencing with his Floridian coastal roots, and ceremonial vessels from his travels. Noel Hennessy studied painting, photography, and sculpture at School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and is influenced by geological formations and imagined civilizations of the future.
