Designed by Finn Juhl in 1951, the chair consisting of a combination of solid oak and walnut is known on the vintage market as SW 86, after its original Danish manufacturer, Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik. It has just been reissued under the new American name of "Kettelhut".
When Finn Juhl designed the Kuttelhut Chair, he sent the design to the American manufacturer Baker Furniture with the hope that it would be launched on the opposite side of the Atlantic. For unknown reasons, the chair didn’t make it into the collection at Baker Furniture back then, but now it is becoming available worldwide.
The chair’s new name honours Mary Ellen Kettelhut, the former Vice President of Marketing at Baker Furniture and the current owner of the original watercolour drawing of the chair
